To Be Well Read, You Must Be Well Fed: Bringing Summer Nutrition to Kids Where they Learn and Play

On Wednesday February 28, 2018 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST Learn about the Summer Food Service Program and how organizations in low-income communities where young people gather may be eligible to offer free, nutritious meals and/or snacks through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

Making sure all children have access to food in the summer is important to their health, wellbeing and academic success. On an average school day, more than one million low-income students eat healthy school lunches; however, only 30% had access to the USDA’s summer nutrition programs. In most upstate communities, these meals reach even less youth in eligible areas.

Community groups are participating with local anti-hunger organizations and school districts to raise awareness of summer meals. Many even provide summer meals alongside enrichment programming.

In this webinar, you will hear tips for success from a sponsoring school district, a community based non-profit, a library that serves meals, and state agency representatives. Join us and learn more ways to engage your community in promoting and serving summer meals at new locations in underserved areas this summer.
