Next week begins the annual Banned Books Week sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA). Banned Books Week recognizes the censored books from educators and librarians all across the country and encourages all readers to use their right to read free information. The ALA is hosting several events, which are listed below with links to obtain more information:
- Anyone can participate in the Rebel Reader Twitter tournament, which provides you with some options for posting about banned books in exchange for an opportunity to win free prizes! http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/bannedbooksweek/rebelreader
- The “Stand for the Banned Read-Out” is an activity for those interested in making YouTube videos! Make a three minute video or shorter and talk about one of your favorite Banned Books: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/standforthebanned
- Check your local library to see if they are hosting any events or programming: http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/libs/publibs/index.html
