Fizz! Boom! Read! New York State Library Launches Summer Reading at New York Libraries

On June 18th The New York State Library celebrated the start of the New York State summer reading program, Summer Reading at New York Libraries with a launch event held at the Schenectady County Public Library.

State and local dignitaries joined members of the community in celebrating the summer reading program, which for 2014 has a science theme and the slogan Fizz! Boom! Read!

Those in attendance included Education Commissioner John King, Senator Hugh Farley, Assemblymen Jim Tedisco and Angelo Santabarbara, and Schenectady Schools Superintendent Larry Spring. In addition, Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education Jeffrey W. Cannell and New York State Librarian, Bernie Margolis attended the event.

After the launch event, Commissioner John King read the book Tiger in My Soup, by Kashmira Sheth, to a group of young children from the Schenectady Day Nursery.
