2013 Summer Reading at New York Libraries Launch Recap

For 2013 the New York State Library participated in eleven Summer Reading at New York Libraries launch events organized by libraries throughout New York State. Each event attracted local dignitaries, legislators, the media, and community members to their local library to celebrate the launch of their local summer reading program.

Each library created a unique event attracting families and children to participate and sign up for summer reading. Some highlights include: a record breaking community poetry reading, story reading and performance by the cast of Broadway’s Spiderman, carnival activities, and story time with legislators. In addition, Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education Jeffrey W. Cannell and Summer Reading at New York Libraries Coordinator Karen Balsen also spoke at the launch events.
