Statewide Effort to Keep Kids Reading

Albany, June 20, 2011 -- The New York State Library, teaming up with the more than 1,100 public libraries and neighborhood branches statewide, today announced the kick-off of "Summer Reading at New York Libraries," the 2011 New York State summer reading programs. Through these programs, young people will have the opportunity to access the vast resources of New York’s public libraries to support their summer reading challenge and to gain recognition for what they achieve. Successful 2011 Summer Reading Launch Press Event at Plattsburgh Public Library

Albany, NY -- June 29, 2011 - The statewide launch for “Summer Reading at New York Libraries” took place at the Plattsburgh Public Library, Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Local legislators and New York State Education Department (NYSED) Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education, Jeffrey W. Cannell, were on hand to announce the beginning of the summer reading season and launch “Summer Reading at New York Libraries.” The New York State Library is pleased to have strong support for summer reading from the New York State legislature, local governments, and educators who all contribute to this summer’s reading fun.
