Resources for 2011
“Summer Reading at New York Libraries” partnerships bring resources to all public libraries and families.
The Together Book Club wants to know what Explore New York books children and teens are reading this summer. Everyone between the ages of 8 and 14 years old who submits a review will get their review published on the Together Book Club blog AND win a free book!
This summer, theTogether Book Club is open to all young people, aged 8 to 14, interested in reading some awesome books, and blogging their reviews for free books.
Here’s what to do!
- Students (8 -14 year olds) can use the Explore New York Reading List from the “Summer Reading at New York Libraries” website to select books to review. The reading list is based on two themes; “One World, Many Stories” for Picture Book, Elementary and Tween selections, and “You Are Here” for Teen titles.
- To get started with the Together Book Club, students can visit the Together Book Club Summer Reading page to learn how to write and submit book reviews online.
The Together Book Club is part of the larger, year-long program Together—Book Talk for Kids and Parents organized by the New York Council for the Humanities. Visit their website for grant opportunities.
4-H Partnership
4-H Youth Development assists young people in reaching their fullest potential, and as such, provides an ideal partnership for NYS Libraries and the Summer Reading Program. 4-H Youth Development resources integrate well with the theme of One World, Many Stories. There are a diversity of activities that support and inspire young people, and the adults with whom they interact.

Connect to 4-H and Cornell:
4-H Youth Development is the youth organization for our land grant university, Cornell University, and it’s the largest out of school youth organization in the United States. Each county office has an approach that is designed to meet the needs of the local community. To connect with a 4-H educator, and to find your local Cornell Cooperative Extension Association, visit the Local Offices page.
